A Title IV aid credit balance is created when the amount of Title IV aid (Federal Pell grant, SEOG, Federal Perkins loans, Federal direct loans, and/or PLUS loans) on a student's account is greater than the amount of charges assessed to the student's account (Tuition, Fees, Room, Board, up to $200 of prior year balance and/or other educationally-related expenses). Trinity will automatically issue a refund check for the credit amount on a student’s account unless the student submits this Title IV Authorization Form, which authorizes us to hold the Title IV credit balance on the student account. Authorization notwithstanding, any remaining credit balance will be sent to the student (or Parent if PLUS loan funds) no later than the end of the final Payment Period for each academic year. If a student authorizes Trinity to hold the excess Title IV funds on his/her Student Account and would like to request the funds in a check before the end of the academic year, they may do so by submitting a Student Account Refund Request.


Authorization to Hold Title IV Excess Funds

By signing this form, I:

  1. Authorize TIU to hold any Title IV credit balance on the student account and to apply those funds to all other outstanding educationally-related charges that have been or will be charged to the student account by the university during the current award year or loan period.
  2. Authorize TIU to notify me electronically of Student Account Activity.
  3. Will notify Trinity Central in writing if I wish to receive my credit balance at a later date (see instructions below).
  4. Understand that, authorization notwithstanding, any remaining credit balance will be sent to me in check form no later than the end of the final pay period of each academic year.
  5. Understand that this status will remain for my entire tenure at TIU (To modify or rescind this authorization, see instructions below).

Instructions to Modify or Rescind Authorization or Request a Credit Balance Check

At the end of the academic year, any remaining credit balance will be sent to you regardless of your authorization status.

Should you wish to receive your credit balance prior to the end of the academic year, you must submit your request in writing (mail or email) to Student Accounting. Student Accounting will provide notice when the credit balance is available for pick-up or mailing.

Should you wish to modify or rescind your Authorization to Hold Excess Title IV Funds, you must submit your request in writing to Student Accounts (mail or email). Any request to modify or cancel this authorization is effective on the date Student Accounting receives the notice and is not retroactive.
